The Google Saga Continues
I’ve wrote about it, ranted about it and I’ve talked about wanting to work for Google all throughout college. I wrote my thesis on online advertising because I’ve a passion for usability and hoped very much that this passion would land me a job with an exciting company such as Google.
Today, I finally have an opportunity to sell myself to them as I have my face-to-face interview at their Dublin office in Grand Canal Quay. I’m not as nervous as I thought I would be, I’m more excited than anything else. All those phone interviews have really prepared me, and in retrospect I’ve very thankful for them. So, I’m sitting in work contemplating it all, I’m off at 1pm as the interview is at 2pm. I’m wearing my pinstripe suit and I’m going to take out all of my piercings. I’ll be meeting with two of the AdSense team leaders - senior employees of Google. I’m hoping this will be the last of the interviews, as I think my brain will explode if I have to have another one.
It’s not like I’m putting my eggs all in one basket though - as a fail-safe I had a phone interview with Three on Thursday, and I have a face-to-face interview with them on Friday. It would be a really similar position to the one I already have, but with extra benefits and higher wages. It would be a nice new start, the kind of job I’d take just to get me out of here (I’m bored to tears with this place) and I’d keep saving my money for my masters next year.
I keep telling myself that even if I don’t secure the position with Google, at least it’s boosted my self-esteem and given me something to talk/rant/blog about for the last few months.

hey, the same thing happened to me today. i had the interview for adsense coordinator with 2 managers. i felt the same way as you, after the third phone interview i didnt think id get a proper one. my first interview went quite well i think, with a french manager called Jan or J something - i am awful with names. the second one was a bit dodgy, he freaked me out a bit, too much eye contact, i felt really uncomfortable and lost my train of thought at least twice. aaaagh. oh well, i suppose i did my best. i wish you all the best, i hope you get the job, fingers crossed for us both !!!!!

Do you think there is more than one position going? Or are we infact competing against eachother? Interesting. Good luck! :) I hope we both get it.
That french manager was called Yann. I found that he asked much harder questions than the other manager Simon. But I found they were both really nice.
So, what’s your background (college/work etc.,)? If you don’t mind me asking.

oh god, this is weird!
no dont worry, i asked about the company expansion etc, they said the adsense dept was expanding at a rapid rate, it seemed to me that they would employ a few people for this role. ive asked that question before - 1st, how many people are you interviewing today, and they say oh - 20, and then find out that theres 1 position.
my background is that i went to ncad for 3 years, studying visual communication, dropped out in 3rd yr, spend a year bumming around london, then went to glasgow to finish my degree in graphic technology. i graduated in 2003 and have been working in the internet/webdesign industry since then, but in contract roles. i’m in a bank in the ifsc at the mo, bored out of my brain.
i think your experience is perfect because you have that sales element in it.
i heard that the role of adsense coordinator is Very sales and target oriented.

Bored out of your brain? I know the feeling. I’m also making peanuts at the moment. Did they by any chance tell you when you would be hearing from them about the position? Yann told me it would be by the end of this week… but I’m suspicious of that. I’m thinking of calling them to ask, but don’t want to come accross as a knob-jockey.

hi again, no they didnt mention when i might hear, and i forgot to ask.
i’m feeling much less optimistic today.
and i doubt that was the last interview for the position !
