As inspired by the Science Week posts over on Mulley.net
What changes would you make to an existing piece of technology?
I’d love it my Sony Ericsson w850i had a QWERTY keyboard and a slightly larger screen, so I could write longer e-mails and not get frustrated with text message input limitations. Besides, most of the smart phones out there at the moment that have QWERTY keyboards are the size of bloody toasters. (No thank you!)
So… what changes would you make to an existing piece of technology?
[...] Congratulations to everyone who won Kevin, Johnny, Monscooch, and Brian. And Sinéad has had the great idea of keeping up the science posts – I’m liking it! [...]
I want to make my house smarter. It needs to do more to save energy and to keep me alert to things that result in greater productivity and better living.
[...] But it looks like if you want to keep writing about this, then go see Sinéad. She’s taken up the mantle and is asking people a new science question (no Wii prize this time though), the question is: What changes would you make to an existing piece of technology? Digg it! | Reddit | Del.icio.us | Stumble Upon | Google [...]
I’d make the $100 laptop cost $100.
I imagine that when they thought up the idea that the dollar was far stronger.

People must think that their technology is flawless :O
Personally, I would like software to be improved. If they could rewrite it so that it would just do its job without crashing, freezing, doing the wrong thing, costing too much, taking too much space or taking too much memory.
Maybe I’m asking too much?
Grandad: sorry to be a bore but have you tried ubuntu yet?
I’d like to see the cost of mobile data reduced, especially when abroad.
I’d like to see mobile broadband being a tad more reliable and faster. And cheaper.
73man – Yes I have. Nothing I have works on it. You’re being a bore ;)
[...] Read the replies to the science week inspired question “What change would you make to an existing piece of technology” here. If someone would like to keep the ball rolling please do. We all need inspiration at some point – I’m quite a sporadic Blogger, science week was the most I’ve ever written in such a short space of time, of course there was that extra piece of motivation too. @Bernie the way they build houses here you’d be better off starting from scratch rather than trying to make it as energy efficient as possible. ;)
@Markham I’m with Stephen on this one.
@Grandad I 100% agree with you on this one. I blame Microsoft and Google for this. Microsoft for making all the other software giants think it’s okay to launch incomplete titles and to keep sending people out software/security updates and to Google for keeping everything in “beta”.
I want the house alarm dongle. You close the front door and press a button on your keys, then all doors and windows in the house lock and the alarm turns on.
Getting the garden gnomes to flash and beep would be going too far….
[...] The iSkin resolves this problem for Apple laptops. I have one on my old G3 iBook and it works a treat. In fact I liked it so much I bought another one recently for my new MacBook Pro that should be landing sometime between Dec. 4th and Dec. 14 th (according to Apples ever changing delivery schedule). But we shouldn’t have to shell out separately for this stuff, it should come as standard. Via: Sinéad | Tags: technology keyboard iskin [...]
@Will I’m loving the garden gnomes idea, the perfect return gift for those people who always give you shite gifts.

Johnny K. That would be wrong and evil.
I’m not objecting, just pointing things out
[...] things haven’t completely stalled on that front. Sinead Cochrane asked what changes would you make to an existing piece of technology? and yes, I do want to see my suggestion made (flashing gnomes are [...]
