Spotted: Live in a Cinema
by Sinéad
I’ve always loved the art deco front of the old Strand Cinema and I’m glad they kept it for this apartment redevelopment. Though the apartments themselves are quite pricey and unfortunately are situated in a rather iffy area on the North Strand Road and close to the East Wall too. If they were closer to Fairview they might be worth the €300,000 each (edit: not 100% sure about this price). A real pity too, because the building itself is gorgeous and the redevelopment is lovely – complete with art deco style foyer with old movie posters.

Hi Sinéad,
I knew it would happen sooner or later – people are mixing is up!

I think I’ve been hanging around the bloggosphere so long that everyone just assumes every comment made by a Sinéad/Sinead (with or without a fada is me. :)
Ohh… sorry about that. I’ll have to start going by Sinéad C (you were here long before me afterall!) :)
Sinéad, I’d be afraid you’d get into the same trouble as me – ranting about the Choice Prize winners, taking on people who think freelancers are not “real” journalists and making odd speeches at footballers the Blog Awards. And that’s just in the last week. :)
And as I said at Slugger, you’re spot on about the HGTTG film. I looked forward to it so much and it was so bloody awful.
Pity you didn’t make the awards. Everyone is so friendly that even if you’d come along on your todd, people would have made you feel welcome. Next year, don’t duck out!
I bet we could BOTH get each other into trouble, especially as we’re both opinionated peaches.
Yeah, as for HHGG I really looked forward to it for years and really hoped it would do DA justice, I don’t think the movie would have been so “family orientated” and mild if he had have been around to meddle in the direction. I’m surprised he didn’t manage to meddle from *points up in the air*
I’ll defo go to the Awards next year! :)
Wow- feel like I should change my name to post here;-)
Agree that you should go to the Awards next year- great night!
As to the actual post though- I just love art deco and its great that they kept if for the development (although am sure they had to and it wasn’t by choice). Was sitting in traffic last night and looking at the old Bord Gais building- really great front….although its a shame it is housing a coffee shop at the moment.
Actually the old Bord Gais Building is now the Trinity College School of Nursing. The coffee shop is for students, but the public are apparently welcome there too. You should go in sometime – the interior is wonderful, they’ve kept all the old decor, even those old coffin shaped doors – they’re incredible. http://www.tcd.ie/Nursing_Midwifery/gallery/
Excellent- thanks for that! Some great pics on that link! Will have to have a wander down at lunch sometime this week:-)
Hey Sinead- double checked access to FB and no go.
Here is a link to the building I was talking about on Kildare St.- really great to be able to see it from the 7th floor and you can take in the whole front in one go.
Sis, you do know that is literally around the corner from where Dad grew up?
Still want to call it iffy?
Bro, you obviously haven’t been up there in a long time. :-P
It’s definitely iffy.
I’ve lived there all my life, perhaps sinead could tell me what’s “iffy” about the place
I only meant because it’s near Amien’s Street, which personally I’ve found isn’t the safest place. Nothing to do with the north strand I suppose.
