An in-depth discussion from a clinical psychological perspective on the question of whether Internet Addiction should be classified as a mental illness.

Post Graduate Dissertation: Currently conducting a major research project investigating motivations, behaviour, attitudes, identity and socialisation in the Irish Blogosphere. (Related Article 1 and Article 2) Read the results here.

Psychology of Artificial Intelligence assignment, essay titled “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning” outlining the legacy of Alan Turing, discussing the work of Dr. Cynthia Breazeal. and the future applications of machine learning.

Developed a wiki for organisational and educational psychology called Project Spaces which aims to teach students about group work and how to best use the Internet as a tool for collaborating online. (Related Article)

Psychology of Virtual Reality assignment, essay titled “Virtual Reality Exposure Therapy for Fear of Flying” outlining the history and future of VR as applied to one form of therapy.

Consumer Cyberpsychology project investigating the online purchase motivations of consumers, as applied to the purchase of MP3 players.

In the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) module a group project involved the research and development of a low-fidelity prototype of a communications and entertainment device for adults over the age of 65.

For the HCI module: A heuristic evaluation and comparative study of Irish online banking services. (Related Article)

Through the Social Psychology of the Internet module an individual project was concerned with the observation of two distinct online communities.

In Computer Mediated Communications the analysis of our personal outgoing computer mediated communications (emails, txt messages etc.,) was undertaken as an individual project.

Completed as part of the B.Sc. (Honours) in Psychology Applied to Information Technology

A group project in 3rd year involved the creation of a high-fidelity prototype of a software application designed to teach older adults how to use a mobile phone.

An individual project in 4th year involved the creation of a WebCT (interactive learning environment) course on broadband technology.

A group project in 4th year with collaboration with B.Sc Multimedia students consisted of the development of a low-fidelity application for a portable device (PDA) that allowed users to keep a dietary diary.

Undergraduate thesis on the psychological effects of online pop-up advertisements - this research was presented to the delegates of the 28th Annual Congress of Psychology Students 2006 and the abstract was published in the Psychology Society Ireland (PSI) Newsletter March 2006. (Related Article)
